Stay Health with 5 Travel Must Haves

On the eve of embarking on a trip to Guatemala I smile to myself as I think of how my style of traveling has changed over the years. When I was in college, I studied in Italy for a year and seemed to be able to travel at the drop of a hat. Give me a toothbrush and an extra pair of underwear and socks and I was ready to go. Now, I check and recheck my quart sized bag of 3 oz. bottles of anti-bacterial essential oils, homeopathic remedies and probiotics. I couldn't imagine every traveling without them. I like to think I've gotten wiser over the years and now "know better" rather than believing I have become a germaphobe. The parasitology courses I took for my naturopathic degree could have something to do with my need to wipe down handles and remote controls in hotel rooms.  I wanted to share with you my 5 favorite traveling buddies.

Here are my 5 traveling must haves:

1. Organic lavender essential oil. A potent anti-bacterial that can be swabbed in your nasal passages before entering an aircraft to protect you from the germs in the recycled air on the flight. Reapply every 2 hours while in flight.

The water in the lavatories on planes have been found to be polluted. Instead of washing your hands in the lavatory, rub a few drops of lavender into your hands to cleanse.

Wipe down all door knobs and locks, remote controls, light switches, etc in your hotel room with a few drops of lavender oil on a tissue to cleanse those surfaces the public touches the most.

2. Quad Parasite Tincture. An herbal blend of black walnut hull, quassia, wormwood and cloves designed by Dr. Hulda Clark, a parasitologist. Dr. Clark found a series of different parasites, fungus', and bacteria usually correlated to specific illnesses. Read her books', 'A Cure for all Diseases', for more information. I take 4 ml of this tincture 2 times a day while traveling to prevent food poisoning or picking up any other bug that may cause constipation, diarrhea or any other digestive distress.

 3. Lugol's iodine. Taking 4 drops of lugol's in a 1/4 cup of water 4 times a day for 4 days affective with E. coli, a bacteria naturally in the body though drinking from an unclean water source may create an overgrowth problem. Avoid if you have a shellfish allergy since most iodine is usually made from sea vegetables. Check your source.

 4. Neti Pot. Once I arrive at my destination I will put 3 drops of lavender essential oil in saline water and pass it through my nose with a neti pot. That usually boosts my energy and prevents me from feeling traveling fatigue.

 5. Still point inducer.  I don't leave home without mine. Great for headaches, tight neck muscles, and to remedy a poor night's sleep in an uncomfortable hotel bed. Lay on it for 15 minutes and feel relief quickly.

I wish you safe and healthy travels.
